Just made these and they are so delicious. I followed the recipe exactly (used 1 tablespoon of cumin). It tastes so fresh. I think it's important to use really really good olive oil. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Yes, it's fine without. My mother actually omits the wine and it was my own unique twist on the recipe. I haven't tried sherry cooking wine, but a little couldn't hurt!

I am a "beef w/ broccoli" snob and this dish made me satisfied and happy!
I now know that when I crave this dish I do not need to go out to dinner to have my craving appeased.

This dish was excellent! It was bright, fresh and spot on with taste!
I didn't have oyster sauce (substituted a small amount of teriyaki instead and didn't have rice wine, used a small amount of merlot and cooked of the alcohol quickly). What an amazing treat to know I have a go to american-chinese staple.
Thank you,
JP

We're big fans of the high-heat method of roasting whole poultry, too. Yum! We raised our own heritage free-ranged turkeys last year, and it was a LOT of work and not too cheap, but holy cow, was that one delicious Thanksgiving dinner. I totally understand now why free-range birds are so expensive to buy at the market!

Hi Selina!
I was frantically searching specially for beef stirfry with kale just before dinner and was attracted to yours.
Cooked it for DH and he said the beef was very nice. When he says that, it means this recipe is a keeper!! (guess I didn't do the kale properly, tasted a little bland.....oh! i forgot the salt!!)
Keep up your good work.

You guys will have to swap stories one day when you're in the Bay (of course, I'll have to finally introduce you, after 2 years). Stay warm (drink lots of Caipirinhas)!! :)

Yum this sounds delicious! I must make it sometime soon.

Actually funny that you mention critters. I was prepping some kale recently and saw all these little spots that I thought were dirt. To my horror, they were 1000s of little bugs. I was so turned off that I just threw it all away and used my much cleaner collards instead. But what a shame!

I love the Brazilian caipirinha cocktail! I always use Boca Loca, a premium Brazilian Cachaca, in my caipirinhas. I love it because it's all natural with no pesticides. Try Boca Loca in your next caipirinha!

So you were in Brazil? Good for you! I am Brazilian and your caipirinha recipe sounds pretty authentic. If yoy can't find cachaça (or don't like the taste, like my husband) you can make it with vodka, it's then called caipiroska.
Cheers!

Amy - Hooray! Glad you made it...so worth it, isn't it?
Sometimes I'll freeze veggie parts that I don't end up cooking (like leftover celery and other stuff), so by the time I want stock, I'll have a stash :)

I'm with you, Selina. Believe it or not, I JUST made my first batch of homemade stock a couple weeks ago and really it was so so easy. Cleanup is the hardest part. I froze the majority of the stock for later use.

As long as you're already making chicken or turkey you might as well make this. So cheap for something that would otherwise be thrown out.

I must admit though, I was chintzy on the veggies (I didn't have celery or too many carrots on hand) so next time I'll use your mix!

My Bug Life - Thanks very much for your visit and comment!!

Joan Nova - Thanks!

Jule - Wow, I am so glad you tried out the recipe. The feedback is wonderful, so thank you! I will adjust the cumin amount in the recipe (at first I thought it was slightly bland, so I kicked it up a notch). Garlic would be a great idea, too!

Great recipe! I made these last night and they were really easy and delicious. But I think 2 tbsp cumin is way too much! I only put 1 tbsp and it was still a little too much for me (and I like cumin!).
Any thoughts on using garlic in this? I think I'll try that next time.

I love Chinese dumplings!

I like how you labelled all the different fillings inside the dumpling. I have always been fascinated with tamales..having seen them on tv but never tasted one before….I should try it out one day, if there’s an opportunity.

What a great posting. I have a Mediterranian Food Market available in our city. I was so intrigued by your recipe that I went out to purchase the lentils. I do hope my turn out to look as delicious as your photo.

Kim - Great idea, I hadn't thought of the different colors as a natural decorative method :)

Diana - Good catch there. I meant to turn off the heat!

These sound really good, lentils come in several colors so if one was making a very large bunch, using the different colors could create a rainbow of these balls.

Thanks Wendy! Sorry if I made ya squeamish...
I have never made them alone before, but I have helped with bits and pieces of the process. The entire ordeal takes at least half a day, if not more! It's definitely an activity suited for retirement :)

Ryan - You should visit my mom, she has a bunch in her freezer!

2. this made me want to write a letter to your family to see if they'd adopt me and therefore let me humbly eat at their table.
3. these sound AMAZING! :-D
4. until I got to the last couple pictures... being squeemish, I felt like I was actually looking at a disection of someone... and felt a little sick. :-(
5. have you ever made them? and if so, how long did it take you?

Hi Selina, thanks for leaving me a comment about the wontons. There is a shrimp wonton in Daly City 99 Ranch, which was close to where I used to live. Their wontons are all shrimp, but not as good as those in Hong Kong, but quite OK. I have yet to find one in SoCal. ;)
