My Bug Life - Thanks very much for your visit and comment!!

Joan Nova - Thanks!

Jule - Wow, I am so glad you tried out the recipe. The feedback is wonderful, so thank you! I will adjust the cumin amount in the recipe (at first I thought it was slightly bland, so I kicked it up a notch). Garlic would be a great idea, too!

Great recipe! I made these last night and they were really easy and delicious. But I think 2 tbsp cumin is way too much! I only put 1 tbsp and it was still a little too much for me (and I like cumin!).
Any thoughts on using garlic in this? I think I'll try that next time.

I like how you labelled all the different fillings inside the dumpling. I have always been fascinated with tamales..having seen them on tv but never tasted one before....I should try it out one day, if there's an opportunity.

I love Chinese dumplings!

These sound really good, lentils come in several colors so if one was making a very large bunch, using the different colors could create a rainbow of these balls.

Thanks Wendy! Sorry if I made ya squeamish...
I have never made them alone before, but I have helped with bits and pieces of the process. The entire ordeal takes at least half a day, if not more! It's definitely an activity suited for retirement :)

Ryan - You should visit my mom, she has a bunch in her freezer!

Hi Selina, thanks for leaving me a comment about the wontons. There is a shrimp wonton in Daly City 99 Ranch, which was close to where I used to live. Their wontons are all shrimp, but not as good as those in Hong Kong, but quite OK. I have yet to find one in SoCal. ;)

These are so good! The ones I eat have a slightly different shape though:
http://www.beachloverkitchen.com/2008/03/pork-zhong-zhi-bamboo-dumpling.html

I eat these all the time too. I didn't even know you were supposed to eat them at a certain time of the year until I was in college.

These are perfect for me. Tasty, cheap, nutritious?, and easy (to reheat). Steam is a good way to thaw them too.

Wow, I think those might be more time consuming than tamales, but these look delicious. I would love to try the dried shrimp. Do you think you will try your hand at perfecting these? Sounds like hard, but rewarding work and it is wonderful your family sends you home with a great care package!

This is so clever! I feel like a lot of childhood memories inspire my cooking (even simple things like macaroni and cheese or working with an ingredient like peanut butter, which I ate constantly as a kid!) so it's fun to see an awesome recipe resulting from a fun children's book!

Bridgett - Thanks! I'm not sure if kids will like pesto, but who knows!
Kim - Thanks for your kind words!
Just Cook It - Let me know what you think!
Van - Haha, I doubt The Counter counts this as a burger. It was good to catch up!
Amy - Thanks! I hope you like it.
Rita - Food processors do wonders! Even my Cuisinart mini-prep machine works decently. I hope you get one soon.

Even though Dr. Suess's green eggs look completely unappetizing, yours look amazing. You came up with such a creative way to honor the story but made it delicious for the adults. I love the spinach pesto and I think I will take a #1. Great post, Selina, this was really a cool idea.

I LOVE peanut butter and banana so the almond butter was a great touch! Adding the honey just sweetened the whole deal. I had to eat it on unsalted matzo during my enforced Low Iodine diet, but it was still so good:)

A tip for other readers (that took me way too long to figure out) - don't use freshly cooked rice. Fried rice works best when you use day old rice that's been in the fridge overnight.

Congratulations on a well deserved award! I really appreciate the tag and thank you for visiting my blog! As you, I appreciate the feedback and advice.
I think being obsessive about recycling is a good thing and more people should at least try, right? I have yet to try snowboarding but I love watching them in Lake Tahoe, it looks like so much fun.

Thanks again, Selina :)

Congrats again!

I too am obsessive compulsive about recycling and reducing energy and waste usage...I guess that is something good to be O/C about right?!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the Opening Ceremonies tonight! (if you are going to watch!) : )

i love all of these versions except over hard and hard boiled. the yolk should be runny. also, add tamago, which is another fabulous way to enjoy eggs. i LOVE eggs, especially cage free ones. while it's nice that the chickens are treated better, the real bonus is that they taste so much more "eggy" than a standard egg. MMMMM!

Broccoli beef has always been my favorite dish to order when out for Chinese. I am not sure how authentic it is here in California, but I still love it. Your dish turned out beautifully.

Great blog - I'll be trying the broccoli beef recipe (and others) soon.
Thanks for lining out the steps to roast carrots. That was one of my "I can do this in my sleep" recipes and I needed it delineated for a friend who wants to try a recipe for biscuits I tweaked. The original calls for using baked sweet potatoes and I subbed in mashed roasted herbed carrots. Very savory. I usually use fresh rosemary and onion from my garden along with salt/pepper but now I will HAVE to try 5 spice! I'll send you a link once I get the recipe fully developed if you like?

Nice post Selina. For the culinarily-challenged such as myself, the pictures definitely help paint a clear picture of the what and how of how to prepare this Chinese classic. If and when I actually start cooking, I'll definitely have to refer to this post.

Thanks Sal, Victoria, and Monecheo! Yes, I love my Williams-Sonoma peeler.

Getting five spice in Puerto Rico does sound like a challenge. Perhaps you can try to piece it together with Chez Pim's blend above, or through Chow's site: http://www.chow.com/recipes/10570 . If not, cinnamon is great, too :)

I totally understand. The poll wasn't meant to be too technical. I think "Very" fell into the category of people who actually do like to know the %, whether it be 60% or 80%.

confusing poll. people who care about chocolate tend to know the actual percentage that they like (i won't eat anything under 60%). by wording the poll with relative terms like "very," it makes it difficult to know what category i fall into. is "very" 70%? cuz yum. is it 80%? that's too high for me...

Hi Selina. Thanks for stopping by my site. Your carrot pictures look amazing by the way. I'll need to show my daughter. It's one of the few vegetables she'll eat.
Banana Pudding recipe...Easy

1 small box instant vanilla pudding
1 1/2 cups cold water
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
3 cups whipped topping (like cool whip)
1 box vanilla wafers
4 medium bananas, sliced

Mix pudding, water, milk. Let stand until set. Fold in cool whip.
Layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, and pudding. Chill in fridge. Enjoy.
